Most torque converters are composed of pump wheels, turbine guide wheels, and lock up clutches, with the power output being the turbine. However, some automatic transmissions use split torque converters, with the power output being not only the turbine but also the pump wheels. A clutch assembly inside the automatic transmission is rigidly connected to the outer cover of the torque converter, and it rotates together with the engine.
